  3.   Thank you for Trying LOCKER v1.12 for DOS & WINDOWS. Please
  4.   notify us if you encounter any problems with LOCKER. 
  5.  
  6.   We are interested in what you think about LOCKER -
  7.   what additional feature you would like to see, what you don't like about it,
  8.   and what you do like about it. Depending on what feedback I
  9.   receive, additional features may be added !

  18. Description:
  19.  
  20.      LOCKER controls the number of concurrent users that may access an
  21.      DOS executable file. When someone tries to access the file when maximum
  22.      number is being used, they are put in a queue and can either wait until
  23.      the application is free or escape out.

  35. Installation:
  36.    These instructions assume a working knowledge of DOS. If you are
  37.    uncertain on how to copy files refere to your DOS Reference Guide.
  38.  
  39.    Copy the LOCKER files to your network. If you prefer you can run
  40.    them from a floppy.
  41.  
  42.      Copy LOCKER.DOS, LOCKER.WIN, LOCKCON.EXE, README.TXT to your Fileserver's
  43.         \SYSTEM directory (or any restricted directory)
  44.  
  45.      example: copy a:lock*.* f:\system\*.*
  46.         (This will copy all the locker files from drive a: to the
  47.          f:\system directory)

  50.    When you run LOCKCON you will see the console screen: (ex.)

  77.    Program name is the name of the exec which is being monitored.
  78.    Type is the type of exec (for furture additions)
  79.    Limit is the number of allowed concurrant users.
  80.    Use is the number of users currently using the exec.

  83.    From LOCKCON you can install / remove or change the user limit on an executable.
  84.  
  85.    INSTALL:
  86.    To install locker on an executable (Note: your must have full rights to
  87.         the program directory). Since it does modify the executable you
  88.         may want to make a backup of the program before you run locker:
  89.  
  90.  
  91.      This will bring up the Locker console.
  92.      Press the <INS> key - this will bring up an install box. Enter the
  93.      program name (ex. WP.EXE), select program type (DOS/WIN) by
  94.      pressing the space bar, the user limit (ex. 1), and the directory
  95.      of where the file can be found (ex. \PROGRAMS\WP or F:\PROGRAMS\WP)
  96.      Then press F10 to lock the executable or ESC to abort.
  97.  
  98.      NOTE: If you use a drive letter that can refer (at different times) to
  99.      different disks make certain that each time you run LOCKCON it points to
  100.      the same disk). If you don't use a drive letter - make certain you are on
  101.      the same disk drive when you run it.
  102.  
  103.    UnINSTALL:
  104.    To remove locker from an executable:
  105.  
  106.      Use the arrow keys to hilite the program you wish to remove locker from.
  107.      Press the <ESC> key to remove locker. You will be prompted if you wish
  108.      to continue (Y/N).
  109.  
  110.  
  111.    CHANGE:
  112.      Use the arrow keys to hilite the program you wish to change the limit on.
  113.      Press the <RETURN> (or <ENTER>) key, this will bring up the change window.
  114.      Change the limit and press <F10> to save your changes or <ESC> to abort.
  115.  
  116. Depending on wheither the program you install metering on is a DOS or
  117. WINDOWS exec, LOCKER will behave differently.
  118.  
  119. DOS:
  120. After LOCKER has been installed on a program, when the program is run
  121. you will get the following message:

  126. and the program will execute. If the maximum number of concurrent users are
  127. already using the program, the following message will also be displayed:

  130.    The maximum number of concurrant users for this program
  131.    has been reached.
  132.    Waiting for the program to be available (Press <ESC> to abort)
  133.  
  134.  
  135. You can then wait until one of the users stops using the program, or press
  136. the ESC key to exit.
  137.  
  138. WINDOWS:
  139.   Upon selecting windows, the application will start right up. If the
  140. maximum number of concurrent users are already using the program, a
  141. window will open and the following message will be displayed.
  142.   
  143.  The maximum number of concurrant users for
  144.        this program has been reached
  145.  
  146.  Waiting for the program to be available 
  147.  
  148.    (Close window to stop waiting)
  149.  
  150. You can minimize this window and when the application is free the
  151. application will start right up. To abort the application just close
  152. the window.
  153.  
  154. NOTES:
  155.   You should only install / remove / change locker on a program which is not
  156.   being used. (i.e. Do not change the limits on a word processing program while
  157.   people are using it !)
  158.  
  159.   When LOCKER is installed it creates several hidden files in the program
  160.   directory. These files should not be deleted.
  161.  
  162.   After running LOCKER on an COM file, the file will be renamed as <filename>.EXE
  163.   If the program you are install LOCKER on has both a .COM & an .EXE.
  164.   You will not be able to install LOCKER on the COM until you rename
  165.   one of them.
  166.  
  167.   Metered windows programs currently do not work when running in
  168.   SMALL/LARGE EMS FRAME MODE, if this is a problem, please let me know.

  170.   If your program icon, after install metering, changes to a LOCK icon, you
  171.   can restore it back to the previous icon by highlighting the program,
  172.   selecting FILE from the system menu, then selecting properties and then
  173.   pushing the CHANGE ICON button. Then change the extension on the file name
  174.   from .EXE to .@@@
  175.  
  176.   You are allowed to use this DEMO version of LOCKER for 30 days. After 30 days
  177.   you should either purchase LOCKER or stop using the DEMO. You are allowed to
  178.   give this demo to anyone ONLY IF it is given with this documentation and is
  179.   FREE.
